Preliminary notes

To start off my work I have written up some possible notes on starting locations for the game I will soon be running. The story and play ability of the game will not be in the main design, however they will be important for establishing a working playtest and will also help me work on my story creativity which is another avenue I may one day pursue. When I first envisioned this game it was with the idea of a self built micro community in Scotland attacked by cultists, then a small Texas town, the reason for both of these settings was the same, they were enclosed spaces with a small but malleable social and physical infrastructure allowing for the players to have an impact the community greatly.

Below are some of the notes I wrote when originally thinking up the areas

The statement of intent

The purpose of this blog is to document my university project in a manageable way, however due to the nature of my project the work and this blog will be subject to an NDA.

My university project is based on the projects of the games company I work for, CCP games. They are at present working on a MMORPG for the IP World of Darkness, this is a well established IP that has generated a famous range of tabletop role-playing games covering many different genres and game play styles. This proposed MMO is set to cover one of these genres with the possibility of expansion into the other genres in the near future.

My design project will take the company's principles and suggested design methods and use them along with my own research and knowledge to create a design document for a proposed expansion for the a CCP World of Darkness MMO Expansion to come out around 2016/17.

To achieve this goal I will discuss the project with the Director of the World of Darkness project and attempt to get feedback from my work as I progress from the games design teams currently working on the WoD MMO. I will also playtest any concepts and systems I design using the World of Darkness tabletop game to see if they work for the game, an idea the company are very interested into looking in to.

My end product should be a collection of audio files documenting the WoD game I will be using for research and story, a design document showing my proposal for a WoD MMORPG Expansion and a tabletop edition of the work I did. I will also produce a research document to validate the IP I have proposed and see it will be valid in 2017, I may produce more and my plan might change but for now this is the proposal.
